Zola Maureen Winslow, age 84, of Goshen, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, following a brief illness. A private family graveside service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Chuck Ford officiating.
Mrs. Maureen, as most affectionately knew her, hailed from the Bread Tray Hill Community in Bullock County, Alabama, where rural living could be found at its finest. Those country parts inspired Mrs. Maureen’s kind spirit, nurturing nature, and enthusiasm for adventure. Mrs. Maureen spent nearly 20 years as a dietary specialist with Troy Regional Medical Center, and even after her retirement devoted countless hours of volunteer service offering comfort and care to patients and families at the hospital. In her time off, she loved a good road trip throughout the community to plunder yard sales in search of a good deal or the perfect trinket to gift to loved ones. Shopping was her best exercise, and she worked-up a sweat often. She was a regular Bingo player with the Wal-Mart Subway club and with the Colley Senior Complex and rarely missed-out on a winning prize. Mrs. Maureen was a master living room Family Feud contestant, and a regular spectator to the daily saga that aired on Days of Our Lives. She had mastered the art of patting biscuits and could shake a sack of flour that turned out the most mouthwatering fried chicken. She was the bright light of her household, and now a warm ray of sunshine shimmering down.
Mrs. Winslow is survived by her husband of 24 years, Ray Winslow; children, Marie Perdue (Bill) and William “Junior” C. Riley, Jr.; step-son, Tom Winslow (Robin); grandchildren, Shirley Little (Greg), Dadie Carswell (Renee), Daniel Carswell, Billy Carswell, Crystal Rushing (Eric), Teresa Taylor, Olin Riley, and Hailee Winslow; numerous great-grandchildren; and a beloved foot warmer and lap dog, Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Minnie Hubbard; daughter, Margie Ann Carswell; step-daughters, Betty Ann Winslow and Annette Winslow; two brothers; and three sisters.
The family wishes to extend many heartfelt thanks to the staff of Encompass Hospice for their outpouring of love and support and tremendous care. Friends and family can sign the guestbook and leave condolences online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Winslow family.
