William Rice

William J. (Bill) Rice Sr., age 70, of Troy, Alabama, died September 25, 2010, in Troy, Alabama. Funeral services will be Monday, September 27, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. John Brannon officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Rice was the former president of Chapman Oil Company and former director of the City of Troy Recycling Program. He was a member of the 1961 University of Alabama National Championship football team and a member of the Friday Alabama Lunch Club. Mr. Rice served 22 years in the military and retired as a Lt. Col. from the Alabama National Guard. He authored three history books including the History of the City of Troy and Trojan Influence.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcia Chapman Rice; parents Bob and Lucy Rice; and father and mother-in-law Louis (Hickey) and Kathryn Chapman; and brother Bobby Rice.

Mr. Rice is survived by three sons, Rush Rice (Marti Chambers), Bill Rice Jr., Bobby Rice (Molly Quantz); and three grandchildren, Chapman Rice, Will Rice and Eleanor Rice.
