W.C. Watkins, Jr., age 67, of Troy, Ala., died Monday, April 11, 2011. Funeral services for Mr. Watkins will be Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Aman officiating. A committal service will follow at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 p.m., until 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Green Hills Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his father, William Cecil Watkins, Sr.; his brother, Joel Keith Watkins and his sister, Ann Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mrs. Nell Watkins; his mother, Esther B. Watkins; two daughters, Amy Findley (Billy), Rhonda W. Page (Pat); one son, William C. Watkins III “Bill” (Michelle); three sisters, Willie Mae Turner (James), Carolyn Shehee and Louise Gardner (Larry); two brothers, Paul Watkins (Beth) and David Watkins (Robbie); three brothers-in-law, Don Johnson, Truman Johnson (Brenda) and Jimmy Johnson; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mr. Watkins is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amanda and Laken Griggs, Emily and Ryan Page, Kyla King, Caleb, Ansley and Will Watkins.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers and the Goshen High School Class of 1961 will act as honorary pall bearers.
Born in 1943, Mr. Watkins was a lifelong resident of Troy who dedicated more than 20 years of his life to the construction industry. His talents are on display all over the southeast in places like Troy’s Bicentennial Park, where he was instrumental in constructing the beautiful arches. He also served as the manger of two of Troy’s most famous establishments, the Dairy Delight and the Red Wave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pike County Relay For Life or the Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
