Ronald Leigh Powell “Ronnie”, age 74, a lifelong resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 2, 2015, at 12 p.m. in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Newman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Hussey, Jeff Kervin, Jason Warren, Joel Kervin, Robert Little, and Ellis Carr, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be William L. “Bill” Thompson, III, Delaney Kervin, Grover Poole, Irving Senn, and Homer Anderson.
Mr. Powell was a notable figure in the Pike County community having earned the reputation of being an “ace” John Deere salesman for Anderson Tractor Company for more than 17 years, and through his terms as a District 1 County Commissioner and Probate Judge. Mr. Powell was a longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He is remembered by many for his love of people, his unwavering friendship, his kind words, and his unforgettable smile. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, James S. and Gloria S. Powell; and his beloved dog, Sissy. He is survived by his children, Ronald L. Powell, Jr. “Trea”, James T. Powell “Jim” (Jessa), Shannon P. Shirley (Jay), and Shaun Powell; grandchildren, Bailey McKnight, Trevor McKnight, James Powell, and Johnathan Powell; beloved ex-wife, Patricia Powell “Pat”; and numerous cousins.
