Robert “Bob” Glen Lavender, Sr., age 77, a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at home surrounded by family. A celebration of his life will be Sunday, July 5, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Mack Lowery officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for fellowship following the service at the funeral home.
Bob, better known as No.1 Yankee over the CB radio wave, was a dedicated over-the-road truck driver for Aqua Glass for 25 years. The thrill of travel and the excitement for taking in new sights and places was ongoing for him even through retirement, as he and Phyllis took to the road a little more comfortably in an RV to revisit some of his favorite places. One of those being on the water of Pickwick Lake in Pickwick, Tennessee. Bob instilled lasting values in his children, implementing the importance of honesty, strong work ethics, and kind hearts. For him and his family, it is never goodbye, only taamo.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Lavender; sons, Robert Glen Lavender, II (Sherri) of Florence, AL, Blaine Lavender (Sherry) of Adamsville, TN, and John-Paul Lavender (Lori) of Corinth, MS; grandchildren, Jennifer Emmerson (Justin), Robert Glen Lavender, III, Michael Jones (Holly), Jon Leath (Nikki), Jennifer Leath, Emma-Beth Arnold (Ben), Kaylyn Lavender, and Kurt Lavender; eight great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Reese and cat Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and June Lucille Lavender; and sister, Glenora Briton.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Encompass Hospice, Dr. Wynn Crawford, and Dr. Melissa Behringer for their tremendous care. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to the Troy Animal Rescue Project (C/O T.A.R.P. Jones Animal Clinic 242 Lee Street Brundidge, AL 36010) or to the National Rifle Association of America (11250 Waples Mill Road Fairfax, VA 22030).
