Ret. Col. E.R. (Bob) Biersack passed away March 21, 2018 after a valiant battle with Parkinson. A celebration of life with military honors will be held March 31, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Green Hills Funeral Home chapel, Troy, Al., with Chaplain Major Randall Jamieson and Reverend Rebecca Mann officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. Bob is survived by his wife, Theresa, special niece Patty (Mike) Blankenship, son, Tate (Teresa), daughter Rhonda, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, brother, Harold (Ruby), sisters, Helen and Margie. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Biersack, brother Mike, and sister, Josephine Ewert, East Troy,WI.
In 1955 while attending prep school at West Point, New York, Bob was selected by General Robert Stillman as one of the original 55 cadet air training officers, who served as upperclassmen for the first cadet class at the Air Force Academy. Upon leaving the academy Bob embarked on a distinguished military career as a navigator and a jet fighter/command pilot proudly serving 31 years in the Air Force. Throughout his life Bob's love of the Air Force and service to his country never wavered. After retiring from the Air Force, Bob became a businessman, worked with the Alabama Medical Association and volunteered with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency in disaster relief efforts before retiring from Troy University Montgomery. Bob received numerous awards and commendations during his military and civil careers including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Alabama Distinguished Service Medal, Alabama Commendation Medal, Maxwell Air Force Angel Award for volunteer service at Maxwell Air Force Base Chapel. Bob was a member of the Maxwell Air Force Chapel and Heritage Baptist Church. He was a Life Member of the Daedalians, Military Officers Association and an Honorary Georgia State Trooper. Bob was inducted in Harmon Hall at the Air Force Academy for his distinguished service as an air training officer. Bob was an Aviator/officer of the finest caliber, a leader of great integrity and an example of selfless service to his country and his community. Special thanks to all the caregivers and staff at Wetumpka Health and Rehabilitation for their love and outstanding care shown to Bob throughout the years. Also Kindred Hospice for their compassion and care. Pallbearers will be the honor guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Heritage Baptist Church Joyful Hearts Sunday School Class.
