Phil Dalton “Doc” Griggs, age 87 of Opp, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Brother Marion Tabor officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Griggs was born in Pike County, Alabama on February 22, 1927. He married Jeannie P. Griggs on February 22, 1947 and they were married for 67 years. He served as an Elder in the Opp Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife Jeannie Griggs; daughter, Sara Winford (David); son, Larry Griggs (Becky); grandchildren, Michael Winford (Vicki), Amber Wilson (Donnie), Stephanie Reeves, Wendy Thompson (Keith), Jason Griggs (Gina), Amy Nichols (Robert); great grandchildren, Beau, Ava, Peyton, Preston, Jaxon, Zachary, Emma; sister, Lucile Ivey and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Dunn, Sammy Dunn, Jeremy Dunn, Gather Williams, Larry Merrihew and Ronnie Kennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Bond and Billy Ted Bond.
Flowers may be sent to Green Hills Funeral Home or donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Griggs family.
