Ophelia Copeland

Ophelia Thomas Copeland was born on November 23, 1933 to the union of Ezekiel and Gertha Thomas.  She was the oldest girl of five siblings born to this union.  At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  She attended Pike County Public Schools in Brundidge, Alabama.  Ophelia was united in holy matrimony to Murphy C. Copeland in April of 1958.  They were blessed with four children.    Ophelia peacefully departed this life on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Luverne Health and Rehabilitation Center in Luverne, Alabama.  A Celebration of her Life will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Green Hills Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy C. Copeland; one brother, Arthur Lee; two sisters, Annette Hobdy (Herman) and Juliette Jones.

Her life will forever be cherished by her family.  She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Dorothy Copeland Stinson of Banks, AL; her sons, George Thomas (Sheronda) of Detroit, MI, Don Copeland (Barbara) of Detroit, MI, Larry Copeland (Angelia) of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Eddie Jones (Mary) of Detroit, MI, Arnold Thomas of Waukegan, IL; one sister, Brenda Carter (William) of Chicago, IL; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
