Mert Marie Thompson, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. A private family graveside service will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mack Lowery officiating. No visitation per her request.
Mert grew up in Banks and lived in the Springhill community most of her life. She worked at South Alabama Electric Coop for 40 years and retired in 1998. Retirement was no time to quit working as she spent her life enjoying yard work, cattle farming, and being with her friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira W. Thompson; son, Danny Thompson; her parents, Frank & Minnie Newman; and her brothers, Curtis, Edward, Pete, and Earl. Loving survivors include her grandchildren, Derrick Thompson (Ammie), Dejie Guerrier (Matt); great grandchildren, Ava Grayce Guerrier, Asa Thompson, Jack Guerrier, Lou Lou Thompson; daughter-in-law, Pam Thompson; sister, Betty McMaster; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank her sitters for their loving care —Karren Williams, Nikka Knox, Shamori Knox, Hope Toles, Marlene Abrams. They would also like to extend a word of gratitude to the staff of Compassus Hospice—Cary, Laurie, Anna, Leigh Anne, Jazlynn, Holli, and Walt for their attentive concern during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or the Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery fund, c/o Nancy Hamm, 1399 Co Rd 3339, Brundidge 36010.
