Mathew James Touchstone, age 28, from Katy, Texas, passed away unexpectedly July 4, 2020. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Chad Teal officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mathew graduated from Bogalusa High School in Bogalusa, Louisiana, Class of 2011. In 2015, he answered a calling to enlist in the United States Army where he dutifully served as a specialist with the military police until his honorable discharge in December of 2019. He aspired to be a police officer and was making strides in his certifications. He had a heart for public service and for helping people. He was a great friend for his fellow servicemen with a special gift to mentor and help those in need through a tough time. He garnered the nickname “Touchy” while stationed across Germany because he could touch someone’s soul and bring them back to the light. Mathew was a talented handyman, always fixing or building or tinkering with special projects. He was also a self-taught mechanic brewed from his appreciation for classic cars. Cars weren’t the only classics he loved. Mathew was a devoted Elvis fan and could sing the words to most every song. Some of those lyrics sing so true for Mathew’s time here, “Love me tender, love me sweet. Never let me go. You have made my life complete, and I love you so. Love me tender, love me true. All my dreams fulfill. For my darlin', I love you, and I always will. Love me tender, love me long. Take me to your heart. For it'sthere that I belong, and we'll never part. Love me tender, love me true. All my dreams fulfill. For my darlin', I love you, and I always will. Love me tender, love me…”.
