Linda Florence Mancil Jordan, age 75, a lifelong resident of Pike County, Alabama, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Reverend J.C. Turner officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Jordan, Chad Jordan, Jarrett Jordan, Wesley Best, Kirk Eigenberg, and Doug Golden.

For Linda, life always came back to the important things, the essentials, the roots of the matters. Her roots sprang in the heart of Pike County and grew steady and strong through the tests of time. Early on, from an attentive perch on a pew somewhere inside Ebenezer Baptist Church, she learned the importance of strong foundations and how they are forged by faith, family, and fortitude and she built upon those principles through every season. She earned a living working in local textile factories and later in property management; she made a home full of love, love that often-times smelled like blackberry cobbler or was donned in her very own hand-stitched apparel or canned and savored in the county goodness of figs and peas and squash. Linda loved the beauty and bounty of an array of potted plants, blooming flower beds, and a hearty garden. Even better she could make them flourish with the gift of a green thumb. She loved a good tale too, mostly true stories that were sometimes sprinkled with a little mystery and conspiracy. But, her favorite stories were of the ones around her. Linda was passionate about genealogy and became even more so with the availability of DNA testing. She dove into her own family history which led to other paths and avenues, because, as they say, roots run deep, and kindled the best of friendships with Jean Kennedy and Sara Ledbetter. Together the trio traced a long line of stories, connected many family dots, and may have even uncovered a few Pike County mysteries of their own. Linda left a great legacy to be cherished and recounted by family and friends. Her roots were deep and strong and will forever carry on.

Ms. Jordan is survived by her children, Sheila Marie Best (Gary), Tammy Lynn Golden (Doug), and Kevin Thomas Jordan (Amy); grandchildren, Vivian Eigenberg (Kirk), Wesley Best (Megan), Jarrett Jordan (Savannah), and Kinsley Jordan; great-grandchildren, Natalie Kidd, Sebastian Best, Everly Best, Israel Best, Nolan Best, Rowan Eigenberg, and Theodore Jordan; and sister, Barbara Wade Newsome. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. Mancil and Alma Rodgers Wade.
