Born on July 1, 1938, in Brundidge, Alabama, the simplest pleasures in life brought the most joy to Kathleen. She found beauty in God’s creation and took delight in the many hydrangeas and azaleas that surrounded her home. In her younger years, she admired them from the wooden swing in her backyard where she spent countless hours swinging, laughing, and telling stories to her children and grandchildren.
Though she loved the occasional adventure, such as a trip to the Nation’s Capital at the age of 71, but her true place of happiness was her home in Troy. She treasured the time spent with her family and took pleasure in cooking meals that made everyone feel as if she had made something special just for them.
Most importantly, Kathleen’s love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, was evident to everyone who knew her. She spent many years serving as the Secretary of Sunday School at Mt. Olive Assembly of God Church in Brundidge and impacted the lives of many children through her involvement in the church’s Vacation Bible School. Those closest to her will always remember her voice as she sang the hymns she loved. Kathleen’s prayers for her family, friends, and neighbors will echo in our hearts forever, and we rejoice that she has been reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Davenport; parents, J.D. and Lucille Bray; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Mary Bray; and great-grandson, Morgan Brooks. She is survived by her daughters, Sherie Brooks (George) and Sandra Kyzar (Ray); grandchildren, Christopher Brooks (Kisha), LeAnn Register (Justin), Ali Garrett (Matt), Savannah Connally (Ryan), Morgan Ryals (Ben), Rachel Davis (Joe), and Lexus Stephens; great-grandchildren, Cody and Justin Brooks, Averie Register, Eli Connally, and Khada Tony; brothers, Bobby Bray (Mernette) and Randy Bray (Effie Jo); as well as many extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend warm thanks to the staff of Encompass Health and Hospice, and to Kathleen’s caregivers both at home and during her time at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center. Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Davenport family.
