Joy Dean Messick, age 82, of Troy, Alabama, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024. A graveside service will be held Monday, October 14, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery. Burial will follow the graveside service, with Daniel Mount, Wesley Messick, Wade Messick Waylon Messick, Austin Dean, and Ben Pope serving as pallbearers and Terry Singleton and Leonard Singleton serving as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Messick worked as a seamstress for Alatex for 30 years, so it goes without saying she could really sew! Along with sewing most of the time went cooking and Mrs. Messick loved to cook and her dressing was the very best! Mrs. Messick was the perfect example of a true servant's heart. She found her calling in helping people, whether serving up hot meals to those in need and buying extra groceries, or even paying electric bills, she was always ready to pitch in and help! Another passion was fundraising for UAB Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Her family and friends meant the world to her and she let them know by always being available at a moment's notice. She had a knack for making everyone feel special. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Derrel) Mount, William (Linda) Messick, and Donald Messick, ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two special nephews; Terry Singleton and Leonard Singleton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaines Messick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luverne Health and Rehabilitation, LLC.
