John Carroll Dunn, a lifelong resident of Troy, died Friday morning, April 11, 2014 at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. He was 66 years old. Funeral services will be held April 13, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Knick officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Dunn was born October 17, 1947. He attended Troy University where he was a member of the Sound of the South Band. He worked for the Alabama Department of Transportation serving in various engineering and leadership positions within the maintenance section to make the roads in Southeast Alabama safe. He retired after 44 years of service as the Division Maintenance Engineer. In addition, Mr. Dunn was co-owner with his parents of Dunn Saw Business for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Lou Ellen, his son Ben Dunn and his wife Jennifer, daughter Jennifer Lindsey and husband Duncan both of Troy, and grandchildren: Bess Dunn, Benton Dunn, Mary Samson Dunn, Eavie Kate Lindsey, Dunn Lindsey, and Luke Lindsey. Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Myrtle C. Dunn.
Active pallbearers will be Joey Avirett, Samuel Fredrick, Wilson Carroll, Mike Griffin, Gary Callin, James Ketchum, Buddy Starling, and David Starling. Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of the Alabama Department of Transportation 7th Division and the Red Oliver Coffee Club.
