John Thompson

John Wallace “Wally” Thompson, age 85, of Montgomery, AL, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in Troy, AL, from cancer. Wallace was born July 18, 1931, in Rutledge, AL, to the late John Waldrop and Nellie Mae Bodiford Thompson. He served in the United States Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Thompson (Danny) Boutwell of Troy, AL, and Elizabeth Thompson (Chris) Melton of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law Linda Thompson, Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Manley (Becky) Davis, Chris Davis, Chris Melton, Alexandra Melton, Daniel (Rachael) Boutwell, Jennifer Boutwell, Meagan Floyd, Gage Floyd; great-grandchildren, Stone Shirah, Lincy Boutwell, Cody Boutwell and Tipp Boutwell; and his sister, Leah (Archer) Frey of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Waldrop and Nellie Mae Bodiford Thompson; and son, John Wallace Thompson, Jr.  A private family graveside service with military honors was held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Rutledge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutledge, AL, with Reverend Rick Hayes officiating and Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Serving as pallbearers were Manley Davis, Chris Davis, Daniel Boutwell and Danny Boutwell. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Thompson family.
