John Barr Jr.

John Dick Barr Jr. age 93, of Banks died Saturday, September 15, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and served in WWII . After World War II he came back to Banks AL, and started a dairy farm. He was then called back to active duty for the Korean Conflict /Occupation of China. He then returned back to Banks to his dairy farm. Funeral services for John Dick Barr Jr. will be Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Ed Shirley officiating. A private family graveside will be held immediately following the chapel service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Green Hills Funeral Home. His survivors include; wife of 71 years, Jean Williams Barr of Banks, his son, John Dick Barr III, his daughter, Suzanne (Mike) Clemmons of Brundidge,  grandchildren,  Aaron (Jillian) Barr, Hunter (Shelia) Compton, Jud Compton, step grandson Macon Clemmons,  great grandchildren,  Brittany (Chris) Shumack,  Shawn Ichiro Compton, Tyler Shogo Compton,  Baine Compton. Josie Claire Compton, Barrett Compton, step great grandchildren, Cole Sanders, Sheldan Sanders, John Baxley Sanders. Serving as pallbearers will be  Hunter Compton, Jud Compton, Aaron Barr, Don Campbell, Don Renfroe and Kevin Watson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7TH floor, New York, NY 10001.The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barr family.
