Joe Wilson Gilchrist, age 94, of Troy, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Doc Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be David H. Gilchrist, Joe R. Gilchrist, Richard W. Gilchrist, Jr., Ben Greer, Tony DiPastena, Veryl Lassiter, Jim Roling, and Asa Dudley. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Baraccas Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Troy, Bob Tolbert, Ralph Black, Otis Stone, Curtis Blair, Ellis Bush, Steve Stephens, Julian Stephens, Jonathan Stephens, Joseph Stephens, and Wayne Giddens. The Gilchrist family also wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Charles Wood for his attentive care.
Mr. Gilchrist was a longtime resident of Troy and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Troy. He had a keen eye for photography and a passion for amateur radio. Mr. Gilchrist was preceded in death by his parents, Malcom L. and Olean Horn Gilchrist; his wife of 66 years, Ann Knight Gilchrist; and daughter, Barbara G. Greer. He is survived by his son, Richard W. Gilchrist, Sr.; son-in-law, Tommy Greer; grandchildren, Ben Greer (Jennifer), Misha Greer, Heather Gilchrist, Richard W. Gilchrist, Jr. (Dallas), and Brittany Greer DiPastena (Tony); several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dr. Alice Hayes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
