Jimmy Long, age 80, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, at Troy Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Long was a longtime resident of Troy apart from his brief relocation to New York City. Upon his return to Pike County, he enlisted with the Ft. Rucker Fire Department as a civilian firefighter, where, after many years of dedicated service, he retired. In his spare time, Mr. Long was an avid golfer having visited most of the trails across the Southeast. Mr. Long is survived by his sister, Octavia D. Jones; nephews, Edward (Patrice) Jones, Mitch (Kynesha) Jones, and Luke (Toni) Jones; and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Dix; brother, Jim “Chicken” Bell; and sister, Mary Lois Chancey. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Maurice Jones.
