Jean Parks Orendorff passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Monday, February 6, 2023 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Father Michael Schwarte officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
Born in 1940 in the small hospital on Pine Street, Jean received her bachelor’s degree from Troy University. After meeting and marrying Mr. Parks, she moved across the country to southern California and earned her master’s degree from Pepperdine University. In California, she set up her practice where she served the community as a psychiatrist for over 30 years. Upon returning to the Troy area, she taught at Troy University for over 10 years. She loved to play tennis and golf, and one could often find her working in her garden. Jean loved to laugh, loved her family and her southern heritage and her large family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Jean and her husband returned to Troy in early 2000 and reunited with her loving cousins Mary, Jane, Suzy, Dorothy, Shear and Don. It was here in Troy where she found her greatest happiness with this wonderful group of friends and family.
Loving survivors include her children, Sam, Jennie, and Ben and their spouses Katie, Gary and Dana; her grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Brianna, Jack, Wallis, Grace, Will and Vaughn; her great grandchildren, Adam, Summer, Shaun, G.G.; her stepdaughter, Katy; and her step grandchildren, Kaden and Reagan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Orendorff; mother, Carolyn Qualls Smith; and brother, William Qualls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Troy chapter of P.E.O., an educational organization for women of which she was a charter member.
