James "Doc" Middlebrooks

June 12, 1930 — July 1, 2014

Dr. James E. (Doc) Middlebrooks, age 84 of Brundidge, entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his residence, and is now sitting at the feet of Jesus learning from the Teacher.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Oris Sanders and Rev. Jimmy Grier officiating and Green Hills Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.  Dr. Middlebrooks was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  Doc spent his lifetime studying the word of God and has read through the Bible numerous times, as well as, arranging the Gospel (life of Jesus) in chronological order.  His household philosophy was based on Joshua 24:15.  Dr. Middlebrooks was passionate about sharing the word of God throughout the world and was a supporter of Gideon’s International.  Doc was born in Midland City, Ala on June 12, 1930.  Dr. Middlebrooks served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.  Doc was a proud supporter of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the U.S. Military.  He attended Auburn University where he received his Veterinary Medicine Degree.  Dr. Middlebrooks loved animals and was loved by pets and pet owners alike.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Ann (Oakes) Middlebrooks; father, John Middlebrooks; mother, Mary (Phillips) Middlebrooks; seven sisters and three brothers.  He is survived by sons, Henry (Marie) Middlebrooks of Banks; Peter Middlebrooks of Brundidge; daughters, Betsy (Jay)Gates of Troy, Tammy Kay (Jonathan) Hetrick of Brundidge; Jane (Richar) Martin of Ozark; grandson, Matthew Gates; granddaughters, Megan Middlebrooks, Elizabeth Gates, Kendra Hetrick, Katie Middlebrooks, Julie Middlebrooks, Haley Middlebrooks and Ashley Hetrick; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Shirley Oakes; sister-in-law, Joyce Oakes; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends of the family, Tracey, Briana and Bradley Adkinson.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Dr. James E. Middlebrooks to Gideon’s International via www.gideons.org or your local Gideon’s International branch.
