On Wednesday morning, October 24th, 2018, James McCune “Jimmy” Gaskin husband, father, brother, and band mate passed away surrounded by his family.
Jimmy was born on December 16th, 1951 in Birmingham, AL. He spent many years as a sales representative in the building supply industry before becoming the owner of Spring Fresh Cleaners in Troy, AL. His true passion was managing the Gaskin Family Farm. He worked to conserve and restore the long leaf pine forests for most of his life.
A true nature lover, Jimmy was happiest at Duffy’s Bend Hunting Club and his beloved farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoe trips, working in his yard, playing music, and dancing like no one was watching.
Jimmy was a fast friend who always made time to have a good conversation. He was a storyteller, a philosopher, and always had a joke or funny story to tell. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and sang in the choir, served as a Junior Warden on Vestry, and co-lead the Episcopal Youth Churchmen.
He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Allen Gaskin Jr. and Chita Smith Gaskin of Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years Amy Hilyer Gaskin, daughters Emily (Kobi) and Mary Beasley, his siblings Dr. Thomas Allen Gaskin III (Nancy), Chita Beasley Middleton (Rick), and Emmett Gaskin. Jimmy is survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 27, 2018 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Troy, Alabama at 11 o’clock in the morning. A short visitation will begin at 10 o’clock.
