William Harold Watkins a resident of Troy, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, January 5, 2014. Funeral Services will be Saturday January 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy with Reverends, Chad Teal and Craig Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery, Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Friday January 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home. Survivors include his devoted wife of 64 years, Joanne Davis Watkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith (Terry) Watkins, Buck (Charlotte) Watkins, Fred (Sheri) Watkins, and Dave (Patti) Watkins; grandchildren Scott (Jenny) Watkins, Brooke Watkins, Emily (Patrick) Holcombe, Kevin Watkins, Jennifer Watkins, Jake Watkins, Hope Watkins and Haley Watkins and great-grandchildren, Gage Watkins, Noah Watkins and Will Holcombe. He is also survived by sisters, Anne Miller and Francis Vaughan, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Davis, Carolyn Babcock and Janis Davis; brothers-in-law, Cass Davis and T. Bob Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy and Ethel Sawyer Watkins, a son, Steve Watkins, brothers-in-law Billy Davis, Claude Morgan, Wallace Miller and Lamar Vaughan, and sisters-in-law Sarah Morgan and Linda Davis.
Harold was born, June 15, 1927 in Coffee County. He was a Navy veteran and served on transport ships as World War II came to an end. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events, spending time with family and friends, working in his garden and fishing. After his battery and golf car business retirement, he became an accomplished horticulturist, basket weaver and beekeeper. He was a Deacon and founding member of God’s Way Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Watkins, Kevin Watkins, Jake Watkins, Charles Barron, Ray Floyd and Wiley Lott.
