Florence G. Owens, age 91 of Troy, died Friday, August 31, 2012, at Troy Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Dr. Mallone Chandler officiating. A Private graveside will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Owens was one of the original founders of the Pilot Club in Troy. She was the first woman to have the title of County Agent in Pike County serving the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service from 1958 retiring in 1982. She had a wonderful weekly radio program teaching home improvement skills that included, cooking tips, food preservation guidelines and home economics. Mrs. Owens was a great cook and shared many recipes and tasty dishes throughout Pike and surrounding counties.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim H. Owens. She is survived by her nephew, Barney Crutchfield; two nieces, Krissy Pinckard (Benny) and Kerry McCloud (Ronnie) as well as several great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pike County Humane Society, the Pike Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Disease Research at 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
