Flois C. “Shorty” Grimes, age 96, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012.
Funeral services for Mrs. Grimes will be Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy with Dr. Luke Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery, with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Mrs. Grimes was an active member of the community, serving as a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy for nearly 70 years, and as a member of the Supper Club since 1980. She devoted much of her time to the Pike County Cowbells and the Alabama Cattlewomen’s Association. Mrs. Grimes worked and shared in business with her husband at the Grimes Motel and Restaurant. She also worked as a friendly face at the Cottage Dress Shop.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her stepson, Louie D. Grimes (Pug); and nephews Ben Smith, Mike Smith (Jennifer), and Randall Smith (Karen). She is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Grimes; parents, John and Arrie Chancellor; brother, Emmitt Chancellor; and sister, Foye C. Smith.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers Shellie Adair, Felicia Smith, Yashica Smith, as wells as the staffs of Hospice Advantage and Noble Manor.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jones, Mike Wilson, John McKeller, Ben Smith, Mike Smith and Randall Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Troy or to a favorite charity.
