Eunice Schloemer

Eunice J. Schloemer, age 100, of Troy, died Sunday, November 23, 2014. Memorial services will be held later at her longtime residence of East Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Schloemer was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Schloemer. She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard Schloemer of Troy; daughter, Sally Refior of Alabama and sister, Anne Schulz of Michigan. Her extended family included seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schloemer devoted her life to learning, either as a student or a teacher. She spent 20 years as an elementary educator at Red Cedar Elementary School in East Lancing, Michigan. She was a woman of rooted faith (her father was a congregational minister), worshiping with the Unitarian Church in Michigan and Beulah Hill Baptist Church in Banks, Alabama. When she arrived to Troy in 2012, she found fast friends at the local nutrition center. Mrs. Schloemer, throughout her journey, left a profound impression on all the souls she encountered. Her infectious, genuine nature will forever be missed. On August 26, 2014, Mrs. Schloemer celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family. She received countless letters commemorating her special occasion from across the country, all of which she greatly enjoyed.
