Ervin L. Pinckard, age 86 of Troy, Alabama, died July 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Ron Miles officiating. Graveside services will follow at the White Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Pinckard was born May 16, 1928 in Troy, Alabama. His vibrant personality was infectious and touched many lives. He was drafted into the Army on September 20, 1950, and he dutifully served until his retirement in 1986 as a Lt. Col. Mr. Pinckard served the most decorated unit of the 5th Regiment Combat Team during the Korean Conflict, and was later awarded the Army Commendation Medal. He was a graduate of Troy State College where he was a member of the golf team and Troy Wavemen Band. He later began his insurance career with Pioneer Life and Casualty Insurance in Gadsden, Alabama, and retired from insurance sales with Coastal States Life Insurance in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Pinckard was a member of White Rock Baptist Church and the Tuesday morning Love Street Breakfast group.
Mr. Pinckard was preceded in death by his parents, John Walter and Anna Pittman Pinckard; brothers, J.B. Pinckard, Bill Pinckard, Ray Pinckard and Hershell Pinckard; sisters; Johnnie Mae Carroll, Voncell Harrell, Una McPherson, Effie Scanlon, and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Edna Grace Pinckard; sister-in-law, Imogene Pinckard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
