Horace Ervin Lott, age 87, of Anderson, SC, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at AnMed Medical Center. Born February 11, 1937, in Troy, AL, he was a son of the late George Horace Lott and Rosa Lou Johnson Lott. He was married for 62 years to Betty Jo Whitehurst Lott until her death in 2020. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Jo Jones Mills, Emma Jean Woods, Jerry Lott, and Calvin Lott. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ervin was a graduate of Troy High School and Athens State College. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired twice during his career. First, from the State of Alabama where we he was an automotive instructor at Troy Vocational Center, Troy, AL, and Alabama Aviation Technical College, Ozark, AL. Next, he retired from the State of Georgia where he was an automotive instructor and department head at Chattahoochee Technical College, Marietta, GA. Ervin’s automotive curriculum became the national model of automotive instruction. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his curriculum development during his long career. He was a past member of the State Emissions Board of Georgia. In 2001, he and Betty Jo moved to Anderson and enjoyed living on Lake Hartwell. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Anderson. He enjoyed mowing his yard, fishing, bird watching, and doting on his 3 adored grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Cara Lott Major and her husband Franky, and Tony Lott and his wife Kathryn; grandchildren, Kathryn Anne Lott, William Lott, and Elizabeth Lott; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm (CST) at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Troy, AL, with Rev. Mack Lowery officiating. Burial will follow at Mossy Grove Cemetery in Troy.
