Elizabeth Hixon

Elizabeth Claire Dickinson "Betty" Hixon , age 82 of Banks died Thursday, June 1, 2017 in Dothan. Betty served as the president of the Alabama Cattlewomen and as the long time president of the Pike County Cattlewomen. She was inducted into the Alabama Cattlewomen Hall of Honor. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the Brundidge Study Club, Pike County Farmers Federation Women's Committee. She was the pianist at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and a choir member at her home church Brundidge United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime member. Betty attended Auburn University and graduated from Troy State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Montgomery at the Highland Avenue Elementary School, followed by stops at Inverness School in Bullock County, Pike County School and Banks Elementary. In 1970 Betty and her family helped start Pike Liberal Arts School where she taught until her retirement in 2002. She is a member of the 2009 AISA Hall of Fame Class.
Funeral Services for Betty Hixon will be held Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Brundidge United Methodist Church with Reverend Ed Shirley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ramah Cemetery. There will be a one hour lie in state prior to the service at the church. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM.
Survivors include; Husband of 60 years, Bill Hixon of Banks, children, Billy (Laura) Hixon of Banks, Beth (John) Collier of Troy, Kim (Layne) Wise of Troy, grandchildren, Tyler (Lacy) Wise of Birmingham, Emily Claire Wise of Troy, Brock Collier of Birmingham, Sam Collier of Troy, Hanna Hixon of Banks, Ross (Amy) Hixon of Troy and Rush Hixon of Banks. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Seale Dickinson and Frances Shaw Dickinson, sisters in law, Annette Salter and Mildred Renfroe.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ross Hixon , Rush Hixon, Brock Collier, Sam Collier, Tyler Wise, Al Renfroe, Max Copeland and Chris Barbaree.
In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to PLAS Foundation, Brundidge United Methodist Church and the Pike County Cattle Womens Association.
