Durrell R.Yancey, age 82, of Troy, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Minister Thaylon Maddox officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Yancey, Brandon Yancey, Jamie Yancey, D.J. Yancey, Gary Hughes and Jonathan Ginn. Honorary pallbearers will be Hospice Advantage Volunteers, Mike and Jon Sims, Phillip Wilson, Donnie Carter, Robin, Mark and Alan Sullivan and Howard Mason.
Mr. Yancey was a longtime resident of Pike County. He was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ in Pine Level, AL. He retired from the 6th Division of The ALDOT for 33 years and served in the Army National Guard for 37 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and music. He loved being with his family and friends. Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Maybelle Yancey; first wife, Cumi Donaldson Yancey; stepdaughter, Gina Pittman; one brother and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Jeanette “Sissy” Yancey; son, Ronnie Yancey, step-son, Michael Sims (Sherrye); daughters, Bobbie McLendon (fiancé Michael Davis); Debbie Hughes (Gary); step-daughter, Mimi Sims; sister, Lena Griffin; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
