Dr. John “Mac” Allgood, Sr., age 58, of Troy, AL., passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at his home. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Troy with Father Den Irwin officiating. The Allgood family will receive friends from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m., Tuesday evening at Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy, AL.
Dr. Allgood graduated high school from the UMS Wright Prep School in Mobile, AL. He completed his undergraduate degree at Springhill College in Mobile prior to earning his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in 1982 in Mobile. Dr. Allgood was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He completed his residency training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL., and went on to start the Allgood Family Medical Center in Moss Point, MS. He also worked as a physician for Hurley Medical Center in Hurley, MS., and Southeast Alabama Rural Health Associates in Troy.
He was a loving husband, father, physician and friend who had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed turkey hunting and watching his boys play baseball, as well as supporting them in learning to fly an aircraft. Dr. Allgood loved the Goshen, AL., community and was especially fond of Friday night football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Betty Allgood and one brother, William Sydney Allgood.
Dr. Allgood is survived by his wife, Denise Allgood; his father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Peg Tomski; four sons, John Allgood, Jr., Nicholas Allan Izzio, Anthony David Izzio, Clay Austin Tomski and one daughter, Devon Charlene Izzio; two brothers, Charles Allgood (Ginny), from Albertville, AL., and Homer Allgood (Melissa), from Baytown, Texas; one brother-in-law, Patrick Tomski (Cheryl); nieces and nephews, Stuart Allgood (Lizzy Varley), Katherine Allgood, Laura (Cal) LaGroue IV, Sonny Allgood, Alexandria Tomski and Max Tomski and special family friend Willie Bang of Vancleave, MS.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Soldo, Scott Tackett, Andrew Bailey, Willie Bang, Chuck Allgood and Homer Allgood. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Tomski and Dennis Tomski.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine at 300 Alumni Circle, Mobile, Alabama 36688.
