Dr. William Joseph Maddox

Dr. William Joseph “Joe” Maddox, beloved veterinarian, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022.  Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Green Hills Funeral Home with visitation to begin at 12:30 pm. Rev. Lanny Shepard officiating.

Rare breed. That’s him, Dr. Joe Maddox. He boasted all the unusual characteristics of his kind and dressed them in an award-winning and memorable ensemble of goodness, authenticity, genius, and fortitude. Dr. Maddox was a coveted veterinarian across the nation, often called-upon to analyze difficult cases and mend the ones deemed unmendable. He was the mastermind of obscure diagnostic treatments and what have come to be predominant surgical techniques implemented in hunting dog breeds. He practiced veterinary medicine for 52 years. Dr. Maddox’s profound connection with animals played an integral part in his successes shared across the field trials industry. He was a decorated sportsman with no “no-go” about him. He reigned-in countless titles raising dogs, running trials, and showcasing the finer techniques of riding as an expert horseman. Later, he served as a judge, awarding the highest accolades to likeminded huntsmen for the finest creeps in the crop. In most all his endeavors, Dr. Maddox met them on-point just as a fine hunting dog accurately set on his mark. He leaves an admirable legacy rooted in care and fervor and excellence-a legacy that will long be ablaze along his ultimate call-back.

Loving survivors include his children, Melanie Sessions (Durwood), Craig Maddox, Beth Maddox, Scott Maddox (Emily); grandchildren, Brooke Gandy (Malachi), Benton Maddox (Abby), Kaylee Maddox; four great grandchildren; his loving brother, Dr. Frank Maddox (Teresa); as well as 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie B. & Nell Maddox; and grandson, Nick Sessions.
