Dorothy Marion "Dottie" Willoughby, age 93, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at her home in Spring, Texas. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery (Hwy 51) in Rocky Head, Alabama, with Reverend Steve Winton officiating. Green Hills Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the United Service Organizations, Inc. (PO Box 96860 Washington, DC 20077-7677) or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105).
Dottie is predeceased by her husband, Herman Lamar Willoughby. She is survived by her children, Lynn Willoughby McFee and husband, Wayne, Lisa Catherine Schultz and husband, Brad, Matthew Scott Willoughby; and Steven Mark Willoughby; grandchildren, Garrett Wayne Schultz, Catherine Anne Lipko and husband, Brian, Meghan Emma Willoughby, and Clare Elizabeth Willoughby.
Born in Queens, New York, Dottie completed her nursing degree and joined the Navy to see the world. She attained the rank of Lieutenant and met her husband at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. They married shortly after completing their service and although she did not fulfill her dream of seeing the world with the Navy, she and Herman traveled the country and the world through his work, living in Alabama, California, Missouri, Florida, the Philippines, Georgia, Texas, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They settled in Beaumont, Texas, and she later relocated to Spring, Texas.
