Charlotte Brantley Kreis, age 90, a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021. A private family service will be held at Green Hills Funeral Home with Father Christopher Boutin officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Kreis was born and raised in Headland, Alabama, and made her way to Troy to advance her studies at Troy State Teacher’s College. While attending, she married John Kreis, and they began a happy journey together through life. She immersed herself in attending to her family and their affairs, always supportive and insistent that they were well fed. She called the family together for routine Sunday suppers where there most often could be found a fragrant, tender roast alongside a heap of belly-warming rice or a robust leg of lamb smothered in her secret barbeque sauce. Christmas garnered special traditions of shrimp gumbo and her signature chocolate candies; both treats the family was excited to indulge. Mrs. Kreis made a point to stay informed with the daily newspapers and often supplemented her reading with an intriguing novel or a destination journal. She and her husband enjoyed domestic and international travel, sharing many excursions with other local families. She dedicated other portions of her time in service to her church on numerous committees and as a hospitable volunteer with the Troy hospital. Mrs. Kreis was a vibrant patron in the community and a lovely example of a dapper Southern gem.
Mrs. Kreis is survived by her sons, Tony Kreis and Mike Kreis (Pam); grandchildren, Todd Kreis (Nicole), Bryant Kreis, Brantley King (Allen), Casey Kreis, and Ashley Vette (Brandt); great-grandchildren, Sam Kreis, Walt Kreis, John Brantley Kreis, Murphy Kreis, Mary Redding King, Jak King, Max Vette, Hank Vette, and Whitt Vette. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kreis; son, Pat Kreis; granddaughter, LeeAnn Kreis; parents, Ben and Minnie Lee Brantley; sister, Jean Wright; and brother, Joe Ben Brantley.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to all the caregivers who have helped take care of Mrs. Kreis during her last years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to your favorite church or charity organization. Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Kreis family.
