Charles Wilson Messick, age 82, a lifelong resident of Goshen, Alabama, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 19, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. in the Joquin Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Rick Hayes officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Luther Messick, David Messick, Douglas Messick, Ricky Messick, Billy Jinright, and Ken Messick. Visitation will be Friday, March 19, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.
Mr. Messick dedicated a long tenure of service in the United States Army, retiring after 28 years as a Sergeant First Class. Following his first retirement, he went right back to work with the auto parts industries, locally as a knowledgeable resource with the Carquest Auto Parts store, and with other companies in Montgomery. At 70, he returned from the frontlines of public employment to tend the family homestead. Mr. Messick was admirable and strong, a treasured partner and friend, and a staunch Pike County soul.
Mr. Messick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Messick; daughters, Bonnie Lou Pyle of Mississippi and Vickie Snyder of Maryland; step-children, Trissya Chatterton (Robert), Paul Pollock, and Steven Pollock; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Ann Vickers and Joyce Richardson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Brenda Sue Young and Charlene Melanie Riedling; parents, Woodrow Wilson and Lillie May Messick; and son-in-law, Earl Pyle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105).
