Calvin Coolidge Head, age 86, of Troy, AL., passed away Friday, September 13, 2013, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Head will be at 2 p.m., Monday, September, 16, 2013, at Bush Memorial Baptist Church with Reverends Dwayne Norman and Otis Derrah officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from noon until service time. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Head was born March 15, 1927, in Shellhorn, AL. He graduated in 1945 from Pike County High School in Shellhorn. In 1949, Mr. Head joined the Army during the reconstruction of Germany and was honorably discharged on April 11, 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Etha Tillery, on June 25, 1950. He retired from South Alabama Electric Cooperative after 39 years of service and was also a part-time cattle farmer.
Mr. Head was a charter member of Bush Memorial Baptist Church, which was founded in 1952. He loved the church where he served as a deacon and held many other offices and duties.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed attending activities at the Colley Senior Center in Troy where he led singing and held various other duties. He also enjoyed projects such as the restoration of his old home place, fishing, loved his grandboys and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Parrott Thomas and Marie Allen Head; two brothers, Paul Head and Gerotha Head; one sister, Frances Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Etha Tillery Head; children, Bobby Head (Linda) of Dothan and Becky Robinett (Alan) of Ozark; grandchildren, Justin Robinett of Jackson, MS and Jared Robinett (Alexa) of Smyrna, GA; sister, Sara Lee Atwell of Louisville, AL and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will be the deacons of Bush Memorial Baptist Church with the employees of South Alabama Electric Cooperative serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Bush Memorial Baptist Church at 605 South George Wallace Drive, Troy, AL., 36081.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Alacare Hospice for the care given to Mr. Head and their kindness to the entire family. Words cannot express the appreciation to all of the caregivers that gave such loving care to Mr. Head during his illness.
