Barbara Sanders Adams, age 53, of Samson, Alabama, and formerly of Troy, Alabama, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021, following a brief illness. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Perry Green officiating. A private family burial will be held in Old Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Barbara was born in Troy, Alabama, and raised in the Ansley Community of Pike County, Alabama. She was a 1986 graduate from Charles Henderson High School. Not long after her commencement, she was happily convinced to marry her longtime beau, Brian Adams, and thus their journey began.
They were working starter jobs at local industries but eager to spread their wings and explore the opportunities beyond their hometown limits. Brian enlisted with the United States Airforce in 1989 and they shipped away to Texas. Their journey brought great adventures through the years. Children born across different states and travel abroad, from Germany to Illinois, Arkansas, and full circle back to their Alabama roots. Barbara flourished as a quality control specialist with TransAmerica Insurance Company for many years, exercising her interest in psychology and honing her customer relations skills.
In retirement, she found the job title that fit her best was Gigi. She never missed an opportunity to shower her grandchildren with oodles of love and a “few” things she may have ordered from Amazon, or an occasion to prepare a scrumptious pot of camp stew or chicken and dumplings, and a sinful slice of peanut butter pie. And the occasions were always grand at Barbara’s house. She loved the thrill of a spooky Halloween setting and the laughs garnered from a homemade costume, and the festivities of the Christmas holidays. She showered her home with Christmas villages and staged a tree for every grandchild. Perhaps her most memorable tradition was the decoration break-down that she insisted happen on Christmas Day.
Barbara was thoughtful and supportive and always a “hey, mom” away. In so many ways, Barbara was like the red rose she adored─steadfast, joyful, passionate, and a classic expression of love─and the devotion she shared and values she instilled will long bloom within the people who loved her best.
