Annette Hixon Salter of Albany, GA died November 2, 2016 at Phoebe Senior Living. She was born on September 4, 1924 in Banks, AL to the late John Delma and Annie Hixon. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Lawson Salter. She graduated from Pike County High School in 1942, Alabama State College for Women, now University of Montevallo in 1946 and received her Masters of Education from Troy University. She taught school in Sylacauga, AL and Leesburg, FL before moving to Albany, GA. In Albany, she served as Director of Women’s Programs at the YMCA and Executive Director of the Flint River Girl Scout Council. In 1964, she became one of the first elementary physical education teachers in Dougherty County and taught PE for 20 years before retiring. In her retirement, she enjoyed playing tennis, coaching youth sports and volunteering. She was a long time member of Porterfield United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Class. She is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Jane Sumner and her husband Rob of Suwanee, GA and June Paschal and her husband Glenn of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Jacob Paschal and his wife Betsy, Dr. Emily Sumner Hinson and her husband Stuart, of Albany, GA, Carrie Paschal Baker and her husband Jeff of Florence, Al, Trent Sumner and Bethany Sumner of Atlanta, GA; great grandsons, Jake Paschal, William Baker and Lawson Baker and a brother, Bill Hixon and his wife Betty of Banks, AL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Josie with Reverend Ed Shirley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ramah Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy directing. Family and friends will gather at Tanyard clubhouse immediately after the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ramah Cemetery fund. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Salter family.
