Ann K. Gilchrist, age 84, died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Ellis Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Gilchrist performed as a Drum Majorette in high school with the Herman Moll Band and later for the Troy Teachers College band. She was crowned Miss Troy 1948 and went on to study at Troy Teachers College where she received her Master’s Degree. Mrs. Gilchrist was an educator for the Troy City School System, Pike Liberal Arts School and retired from Troy University. She was a longtime member at the First Baptist Church and active with the Troy Arts Council. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dalton Knight and Melva Duke. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joe W. Gilchrist; son, Richard W. Gilchrist, Sr.; daughter, Barbara G. Greer (Tommy); sister, Dr. Alice Hayes; grandchildren, Ben Greer (Jennifer), Misha Greer, Brittany Greer, Heather Gilchrist, and Richard Gilchrist, Jr.; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many loved former students. Pallbearers will be Ben Greer, Richard Gilchrist, Jr., David Gilchrist, Joe Gilchrist, Veryl Lassiter and Julian E. Stephens, III. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Lydia Sunday School Class, the Baraca Sunday School Class, Jim Roling and Asa Dudley.
