Allene Norris Powell
Mrs. Allene Norris Powell, age 79 of Calhoun, GA died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Gordon Health Care Center following several years of declining health. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Troy, with Rev. Lane Towe officiating and Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.
She was born in Troy, AL on June 26, 1931, daughter of the late Willie Hampton Norris and the late Emma Johnson Norris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carroll B. “Pete” Powell, Sr. on November 4, 2010; a brother, Wayne Norris; and two sisters, Edna Mae Jowers and Kathleen Buice.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Gordon Hospital ER, Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn, and a substitute teacher. She was a member of New Town Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Carroll Ben Powell, Jr. of Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Beverly Grizzle and her husband Sam of Cartersville, GA, and Barbara Gallmon of Resaca, GA; and a sister, Willie Ruth Gibson of Columbus, GA. Grandchildren surviving are Denis Ningen, Shane Grizzle, Tammy Strickland, Jason Gallmon, Lauren Powell and Alex Powell. Ten great-grandchildren also survive.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
