Alex Jay Powell, 28, of Enterprise Alabama, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Needmore Community. Services will be livestreamed via the Green Hills Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be Saturday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Alex was born on March AFB, Riverside, CA. Alex had a love for nature and the military at a young age. He was active in Boy Scouts, served as a camp excursions counselor at Eagle Lake Camp in Colorado, and worked with Outward Bound in Florida and Alabama, a program which provides challenging outdoor adventure programs for people of all ages and walks of life. He served in the United States Army and Alabama National Guard. He attended Rancocas Valley High School, Mount Holly, New Jersey, and was active in NJ ROTC color guard and drill team. He was currently attending Troy University pursuing a degree in Business Accounting. Alex will be remembered for his love and work with underprivileged and challenged children. People close to Alex knew his wide range of passions, interests, and skills from trivia knowledge, to art.
Alex is survived by his wife of seven years, Annelyse Paradis Powell; father, Carroll Ben Powell Jr, and his wife, Susan Powell of Dothan, AL; mother, Peggy Maksin, and her husband, Joe Maksin of Tabernacle, NJ; sibling, Lauren Trerotola (Jason); stepsiblings, Colleen Maksin (Kevin), lJoe Maksin (Mandi), Laura Armstrong (Daniel), and Ross Armstrong (Nadia); maternal grandparents, Wendell and Purita Coleman of Vacaville, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives. A lover of animals, Alex is also survived by his beloved pets, Zeus and Eggo. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, C.B. and Allene Norris Powell, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in his honor to the Navigators Discipleship Program (navigators.org), Eagle Lake Camps (eaglelakecamps.com), or to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund (321 Homewood Avenue, Troy, AL 36081).
