Judy Reid Creek, age 71, of Montgomery, Alabama, formerly a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 3 p.m. in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Steve Winton officiating.
Life wasn’t always the picture of sunshine and lemons for Judy as she had her fair share of just the lemons. But Judy always managed to make the sweetest lemonade of her situations and served them up with grace and gratitude. Judy was born in Uriah, Alabama, as a member of the Porch Creek Indian Tribe. She and her sisters relocated to Troy at a young age and were raised in the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home. She attended Charles Henderson High School where she met her sweetheart, Judd Creek. It was an instant connection between the pair, one that still conjures a school boy grin and rosy cheeks from Judd, and a fond memory of how he once wore a car out just driving around the Children’s home. Judy graduated Class of 1968 and went on to pursue her cosmetology license. She worked as a talented stylist with Dalinda’s in Montgomery for 25 years. Judy was also a familiar face and faithful parishioner around the First United Methodist Church of Troy where she dedicated many years to mentoring in the church childcare program and was known to “really run a show” in the church kitchen for Wednesday night suppers. After relocating to Montgomery, she continued her fellowship with Fairview United Methodist Church and exercised her discipleship through teaching the L.I.G.H.T. (Learning In God’s House Together) Sunday school program, advocating for community missions through the church’s Lamplighter group, and building friendships with the monthly coffee club. Judy gave willingly of herself and loved unconditionally. She was an attentive wife and doting Nana and a genuine patron for others. Judy was spontaneous and lived to “hurry up and have fun.” She lived well, had fun, and did it all sweeter than anyone.
Mrs. Creek is survived by her husband of 50 years, William Judd Creek; daughters, Tandy Thaggard (Randal) and Rhonda Tyner; seven grandchildren; sisters, Linda Brooks (Dallas) and Ann Brooks (Howard); nephew, John Dallas Brooks; nieces, Daisy Brooks, Lily Marie Brooks, Judilyn Horton, and Elizabeth Brooks; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C. and Nessie Reid; brother, Leon Reid; father-and-mother-in-law, Joseph and Gloria Creek; and brother-in-law, Jon Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society (PO Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123) or to the American Heart Association (10 Glenlake Pkwy NE South Tower Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30328).
